Network54

Have you been to Network54 ? This site is frequented by people who anonymously post comments about their teams and issues. The site can be hysterical, offensive and downright mean. I have never posted there, but I occasionally find myself checking in to see what is being said. What do you think?  The worst day ever was when I found one of my kids initials posted there.  Thanks friends.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/672275/  This link is now for 98 players and under.  This link is for the main menu,: http://www.network54.com/Browse/Sports/Hockey.  This link is for players 97 and over: http://www.network54.com/Forum/672359/  Finally this link is for female hockey http://www.network54.com/Forum/679250/  Have a look around from the main link, in case I've missed something.

Welcome to this blog, which is about Minor Hockey or Youth Hockey. This blog has absolutely no affiliation with Network54 and there will be no tolerance of gossip or criticism of players, coaches or teams on this site. Please visit the Minor Hockey Blog's other pages, and comment, if you like.  Most of our visitors come in looking for hockey camps and classes, OMHA boundaries and looking for Network54.  Comments can be anonymous - so go for it, but be polite please.  The blog will cover boundary type issues if anything new comes up, and our experiences in hockey, and any hockey camps or clases we find along the way.  Keep visiting!

  2. Network 54 is cowardice and destructive....simple. It is filled with mistruth and generally serves to bring parents and more importantly young athletes down. As I say to my kids if you are not prepared to read about yourself on the front page of the Globe and Mail...keep your negative thoughts off your computer screen.
    Look at the link below:

  9. Shutting 54 down, or at least not having a minor hockey forum on 54 would be the best thing to happen to minor hockey. Minor hockey is full of issues, politics etc. but none of it compares to the slanderous, misinformed and often base comments that it is full of.

  10. Details on it being shut down? What happened?
    Quite frankly, I miss it.

  11. Not sure we'll ever know for sure what happened. But in all honesty it was a lawsuit waiting to happen. As much as I enjoyed the news and gossip on there it displayed that absolute worst in people. too many people on there who won't ever grow up. Its a great place for every guy who has little man syndrome. If it was just news it would be great but human nature being what it is makes it slide right down into the mud. My son is 11 and all I can say is that if it is shut down I'm thrilled, because my son hadn't found it yet. If you could guarantee that kids couldn't ever read it then maybe there is merit in keeping it going. But if you want to absolutely eviscerate a kid's self esteem and confidence then 54 had the potential to do it - and no forum that can do that is worth keeping.

  15. Informative site, when used properly. Honestly, nothing will sit in your head worse than seeing your (or kid's) name getting slagged. 70% destructive, 30% informative. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

    1. You are right. It could have been a great way to keep informed on issues in the loop and just generally stay in touch with other hockey parents. Sometimes a person could get a rules clarification etc. I tried to use it this way, and at times found myself in a cyber battle with trash-talking knuckle-draggers. I warned them that they would probably end up burning their own house down. I had even suggested not permitting anonymous posts, but require a log-in and a handle to better help administrators block the idiots. Pity. A potentially worthwhile tool shut down by a bunch of know-nothing potty-mouths.
